Lenggeng rep is small fry - what about Taib?
'Mustafa Salim who? Come on MACC, we know you can do better than that. Go out and catch the big one - Taib Mahmud.'
Lenggeng state rep slapped with 3 years for graft
4th Generation Pendatang: Poor guy, someone has to be BN's scapegoat for public consumption. I am sure the BN-controlled papers will make this frontpage news.
Ben Hor: Mustafa Salim who? Another sacrificial lamb? Come on MACC, we know you can do better than that. Go and catch the big one - Abdul Taib Mahmud.
Fearless: This man only a small fry ... where the big fish? The big whale of a thief in Sarawak is still swimming and laughing at everyone.
Atan-Toyol : Don't worry, the higher courts will overturn the verdict after appeal since he is an Umno man. The trend is quite consistent and predictable. Sorry for being cynical, but we have seen many such cases already.
Lim Chong Leong: The show has not ended yet, there is still the appeal. This is just for the Sarawak elections. In the end, Mustafa will be acquitted as they all have been in the past.
Abil: This is very much a sandiwara to show the BN is serious about corruption, while in Sarawak no one can touch Taib.
Taib ramps up cyber-defence
Lexicon: Many people do not register to vote because they have been kept so poor they cannot afford to get to towns to register, or have been denied ICs. It is a giant stretch of the imagination to argue, as Taib does, that many Sarawakians are satisfied with an inept and corrupt elite by the fact that many have not registered to vote.
Atan-Toyol: This is another BN 'old hack' who resists change. He wants stability at all costs. That means he wants to continue as chief minister after GE13.
Why is stability so highly valued at the expense of better democracy? Dictators love stability because they can continue to plunder their countries. People in Egypt, Tunisia, Yemen and Libya have to sacrifice their lives to claim the democracy they had lost to the dictators.
People of Sarawak want more than just election every five years. They want honest leaders who really strive for the rakyat, not to enrich themselves first, and leaving only the crumbs for the people.
Beetle: For a man about to lose his beloved crown, he seems to be forgetting that despite all his denials he would not get any reprieve from voters, who by the way is sick and tired of all his flirting with ill-gained riches.
And by the way, how much did he spend for all these TV interviews and websites? Where did the money come from? It's not cheap to do all this. He must have a lot of cash or perhaps he is billing the government for it. Enough is enough, just kick him and the whole lot out this time.
Anonymous: There is a saying that ‘a fool looks wiser when he keeps quiet'. The more one speaks, the darker he paints himself. It amazes me that Taib would stoop so low as to defend a defenceless conduct.
First-ever FOI enactment passed
Habib Rak: With the passing of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act, the Selangor government under Pakatan Rakyat has proven itself to be ready to be scrutinised for its actions and decisions.
This reflects a government that is confident that it shall be making decisions that are in the best interest of the rakyat and it is prepared to be put itself under scrutiny of the rakyat. Well done, Pakatan.
Not Confused: It should be extended to the federal level if and when Pakatan takes over in Putrajaya.
SusahKes: PM Najib Razak, your move now.
Gerard Samuel Vijayan: The BN is not interested in political reform. That is why it takes Najib close to three years to table the proposed amendments to the ISA and other security laws such as the Emergency Ordinance and the Police Act (including the repeal of some). It must be a record for any country that claims to have good governance, transparency and open government.
What is so difficult about changing these laws? What about the Sedition Act, the PPPA (Printing Presses and Publications Act), the OSA (Official Secrets Act), the UUCA (Universities and University Colleges Act), Trades Union Act, etc.
The BN is no respecter of human rights and the rule of law. That is why in the last 53 years the BN government has not signed any major international human rights treaties (with or without reservations) giving all sorts of lame excuses.
The bottom line is that the system has entrenched powers in the executive and that helps the BN to stay in power. The judiciary is completely impotent when it comes to checks and balances as it is subservient to the executive, and in the process the federal constitution is rendered illusory and ineffective.
Tell the Truth: BN cronies are like hyenas waiting for a chance to grab whatever they can from the people, but now with the FOI, they will be in danger of getting caught. Hyenas they will always be. Pakatan has shown great courage in the face of BN opposition.
Adcin: If this Act was around pre-2008, former Selangor MB Mohd Khir Toyo may have had to forgo his Disneyland trip.
