Businesswoman Ummi Hafilda Ali today filed again the RM100 million suit against her business partner and the Malaysiakini website which the High Court had thrown out less than two weeks ago.

The suit, which named Nor Azman Abdullah @ Baginda Minda as the first defendant and Mkini Dotcom Sdn Bhd, the administrator of the Malaysiakini website, was filed again at the Civil High Court registry through the legal firm of Messrs Sahrihan & Hamdah.

Last April 13, High Court judge Zabariah Mohd Yusof has struck out the suit filed by Ummi Hafilda, 43, after the counsel for both parties failed to appear when the case came up for mention before her.

Ummi Hafilda’s legal adviser, Mohd Khairul Azam Abdul Aziz, when met by reporters at the court today and asked the reason for their absence at the court on April 13, said that there was some confusion with the e-filing system which was introduced at the court, resulting in them not receiving the date set by the court.

In her statement of claim, Ummi Hafilda claimed that Nor Azman, during an interview at the Parliament lobby, had uttered slanderous statements against her, among others that she was a woman of loose morals and not an honest person.

    

She said the words used by Nor Azman were intended to embarrass her and with malice and that the second defendant had negligently published an article on the defamatory words on the www.malaysiakini.com portal on March 15.

Besides the RM100 million in damages and other relief deemed fit by the court, she had also sought an injunction to prevent the two defendants from  continuing to defame her.
