The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has completed its probe into the death of senior Customs officer Ahmad Sarbani Mohamed.

It is ready to present the findings to the internal complaints committee.

MACC chief commissioner Abu Kassim Mohamed said the agency has to wait for the committee to hold its next meeting as, procedurally, reports of such nature are scrutinised by the complaints committee.

NONE "The investigation is completed and ready to be presented (to the committee). They will look into the report and advise me on their recommendations," he said after presenting a talk at an anti-graft symposium today.

However, Abu Kassim ( right ) declined to say whether the MACC would make the findings public, emphasising that it was an internal probe.

Sarbani, who was a Selangor Customs assistant director, was found dead on the first floor of the MACC's Federal Territory headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, not long after he was seen entering the premises on the morning of April 6.

It is believed that he had gone to the office to deliver some documents, two days after he was released from questioning related to a multi-agency operation called Ops 3B.

This was aimed at recouping some RM3 billion in revenue lost to corruption and leakages from Customs operations.

Sarbani's death is the second involving individuals involving the MACC. The first was DAP political aide Teoh Beng Hock, whose death is now being investigated by a royal commission of inquiry.

The Customs officer's death is also being investigated by the police, who have said that their probe is in the final stages .

MACC annual report for Parliament

On Ops 3B, Abu Kassim said he met with the MACC's advisory board this morning and had briefed it on the status of the operation and on the situation surrounding Sarbani's death.

"I briefed them on the steps taken regarding the internal investigation and what actions have been initiated. (The 3B) investigations are still ongoing, as this not only involves us but also the Inland Revenue Board, the Customs Department itself and Bank Negara," he said.

Abu Kassim also said he would be presenting the commission's annual report to Parliament on Thursday.

"I will be meeting with the parliamentary committee on the MACC to present our annual report, starting at 10am. Our advisory board will also tag its comments (to the report) on our performance in 2010," he said.
