Pakatan Rakyat wants victims and witnesses of alleged police brutality during Saturday's Bersih 2.0 rally to come forward with information.

azlan PKR deputy president Azmin Ali said the opposition coalition is compiling as much evidence as possible to prop up a possible bid to sue the police.

                                        

He urged anyone with documented proof of police brutality during the rally to send it either directly to the Bersih 2.0 secretariat or to Pakatan member-parties.

"This time around, the police cannot get away with it," he told journalists at a press conference at the Selangor state assembly building.

Azmin trained his guns on inspector-general of police Ismail Omar, saying that the police cannot run from the facts despite the latter’s repeated denial that police had fired tear gas indiscriminately and brutalised protesters.

NONE “This is a denial syndrome that he inherited from Umno. The police cannot hide from the facts, which have been documented using handphones and are on YouTube and videos online.

“We even have proof on the international media, including Al-Jazeera which reported (a turnout of) 120,000. BBC reported 100,000, as did the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

“The only ones who reported 6,000 are Utusan Malaysia , TV3 and the IGP. This means they are illiterate, indifferent and blind ( buta huruf, buta hati dan buta mata ).”

Azmin stressed that if the IGP is capable of allegedly lying over the Bersih 2.0 turnout, it is hard to trust that he would be able to give an accurate and reliable security briefing to the government of the day.

“This is an important question the rakyat must ask,” he said.

A racial conspiracy?

PAS’ Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad, who claims to be among those injured by police at the rally, pointed out that the police appeared to have targetted only Malay leaders, particularly from PAS, during the Saturday crackdown.

“It is as though (there was) a plan, where they want to show that the protesters were stupid Malays, who are being used by DAP.

“(They want to show) all the protesters are Malay, the ones arrested are all PAS leaders, how stupid PAS is... This is all a political game.

“It looks like the police were playing out the role set out for them by Umno,” he said.

At least three top PAS leaders, including party president Abdul Hadi Awang and vice-presidents Mahfuz Omar and Salahuddin Ayub, were detained for several hours early on during the rally.

Khalid and PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu, who was also at the press conference, meanwhile both claim to be victims of alleged police brutality.

Khalid stressed that despite the alleged smear tactics employed by the police, the turnout was undeniably multi-racial.

“We hope the police will free themselves from the shackles of such political games,” he said.

" Makan gaji elok-elok lah (earn a decent living lah )," Mohamad Sabu chimed in at the end.
