The Malaysian Pribumi Perkasa Organisation (Perkasa) said police action against participants of the July 9 rally prevented the situation from running out of hand and threatening security.

Its information chief Roslan Kasim said the police had acted appropriately when the participants started to become aggressive as if challenging their authority and disregarding the warning to disperse.

He said Perkasa was prepared to respond to the call of the deputy inspector-general of police, Khalid Abu Bakar by bringing forward some witnesses who saw how the police worked hard to control the illegal rally.

He said the witnesses saw the unruly behaviour and wild actions of the illegal group who carried out numerous acts of provocations but the police patiently bore their antics.

“The police only gave the warning to disperse when the actions of the groups could no longer be controlled and reached the stage where the safety of the police and public was endangered, but the order was ignored.

        

“In fact, the actions of the group became wilder as if they were challenging the authority of the police and at this point the police had to take appropriate action,” he said in a statement.    

Meanwhile, Roslan also reminded the group responsible for organising the illegal gathering to respect the right of others and the contributions of the police and security forces.

“Do not, under the pretext of upholding democracy, cause chaos and unrest with scant regard for the rights of others who are also the citizens of the country who yearn for peace and harmony,” he said.
