Candlelight vigil for PSM 6 continues for 14th day
Last night, about 60 people, including the parents and sister of Sungai Siput MP Dr Jeyakumar Devaraj, joined a candlelight vigil outside the federal police headquarters at Bukit Aman, to call for the immediate and unconditional release of the PSM 6. They have been held under the Emergency Ordinance (EO) for 20 days, since July 2.

They have been held under the Emergency Ordinance (EO) for 20 days, since July 2.
According to the police affidavit-in-reply, the six were detained because they were
suspected to be the “movers”
of Bersih 2.0 and hence their detention is necessary to maintain public order.
However, this has been vehemently rejected by the Bersih 2.0 steering committee, as the coalition is purely a civil society initiative without any interference from the political parties. On the other hand, the de facto Law Minister, Nazri Aziz, had claimed that the detention was for the “act of reviving communism”.
This is the 14th candlelight vigil held at Bukit Aman since their incaceration the PSM 6. Rain or shine, supporters have been oberving the vigil consistently for the past two weeks before and after the Bersih 2.0 rally.
Under the watchful eyes of the police and the Special Branch, a PSM member updated the participants on the current status of the case. PSM coordinator E Nalini called on the supporters to be at the

hearing at Duta Court the following morning (today) at 9am. She also invited them to join a peaceful rally at Bukit Aman to demand justice for the PSM 6, while PSM and Suaram are to hand over a memorandum to the IGP at 3pm today.
At the candlelight vigil last night, participants were given manila cards to write “creative messages” to the IGP. These will be handed over to the IGP together with the memorandum today.
‘Aunty Bersih’ Anne Ooi was spotted in the crowd last night. She said she wants the PSM6 to be released.
“My heart feels for people in solitary confinement, being blindfolded. My heart feels for this injustice. I cannot stand injustice,” Ooi said.
She further questioned the need for the EO since Malaysia is no longer in an Emergency period now.
The vigil ended with a poem recitation by PSM president Dr Nasir Hashim and the singing of ‘ Suara Rakyat ’.
