The parliamentary select committee (PSC) for electoral reform will not likely be solely tied to demands made by the Coalition for Free and Fair Elections (Bersih), said Umno Youth head Khairy Jamaluddin.

Instead, he said, it would consider the views of various parties including Umno Youth, the Malaysian Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) and several registered NGOs.

NONE "Umno Youth welcomes the setting up of the PSC. However, we (Umno Youth) believe that the views of various quarters must be considered and not Bersih's alone," he told reporters after attending a Ramadan function in Kepala Batas yesterday.

Khairy, who is also Rembau MP, said this in commenting on reports on news portals that Bersih's demands would form the bulk of the framework of the PSC's work.

He said among the suggestions Umno Youth had was for the abolishment of the nomination process because it was a "waste of time, energy and money".

"Several advanced countries do not practise nomination like we do, instead a 24-hour period is given for anyone to register as a candidate," he said.
