Parti Kesejahteraan Insan Tanah Air (Kita) president Zaid Ibrahim said it is prepared to be investigated by the Registrar of Societies (ROS) over alleged irregularities in the party, as claimed by some disgruntled members.

He also challenged disgruntled members to hold an emergency general meeting if they claimed to have the numbers to oust him.

“If they can get 51 percent of the members’ support to hold the EGM, by all means go ahead. Unlike other party constitutions that require 75 percent support to hold an EGM, we are democratic.

NONE “I do not want to lead the party forever and if they have the numbers, they can ask to hold an EGM.”

Zaid ( seated centre in photo ), who was formerly a minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, also denied that the party’s fate depended on the disgruntled members who have taken their complaints to the ROS.

“It is incorrect for The Star to use such a headline. Every action is done based on the party constitution and if they want to complain, that is their right, but it is incorrect to suggest Kita’s fate is in their hands.

“We are prepared to be investigated if ROS requests it. If there is a need, we will appoint our lawyers to represent Kita with ROS.”

Zaid said this at a press conference attended by Nibong Tebal MP Tan Tee Beng, state Kita leaders and former Angkatan Keadilan Insan Malaysia (Akim) leaders from Kelantan, who came to show their support, at his residence in Tropicana, Petaling Jaya.

He implored the press not to believe much of what was being aired on Twitter and Facebook regarding the party.

“We have to follow the rightful process according to party channels,” he emphasised.

‘Dissidents are not founding members’

Zaid also denied suggestions that the dissidents were founding members of Kita, as claimed by some.

“They are not, as if you look at Kita’s history, it comes from Akim. Look at Abdullah Sani Musa (pointing to the person) from Kelantan. His father helped set up Akim. Hence, Abdullah can be said to be a founding leader,” he said.

“These people may have associated themselves with me or have worked with me. However, they cannot claim themselves as founding Kita members. Even I cannot lay that claim of being a founding member,” Zaid explained.

Kita had announced the removal of its central secretary Abd Latif A Tambi earlier this month, and Masrum Dayat as his replacement.

Besides this, it had also suspended Muhammad Firdaus Christopher pending further investigations and it claimed Mohd Zaharein Zakariah had never been a central committee (CC) member.

Asked about Zaharein’s claim that there were documents showing him to be a CC member, Zaid said he never signed any document (on the appointment).

To a question about Latif’s removal, Masrum, who was also at the press conference, said it was within Zaid’s powers.

'Sabotage by outside party not discounted'

Asked whether the problems taking place in Kita could have been the a result of interference from other political parties, Zaid said he did not discount the possibility.

“Some people accused me of being on BN’s side (as coming from Umno), but all this is untrue. Kita is Kita and we will criticise on real issues and voice support to the (BN) government if the policy is all right,” he said.

Asked whether this could have been the work of Pakatan Rakyat, where Zaid was formerly a PKR central committee member, the former Kota Baru MP said he did not want to make such a conclusion.

Zaid also said he was not losing sleep over the dissidents’ claim.

The three members have yet to be brought before the disciplinary committee for action.

When Kita’s disciplinary committee chairperson Wan Norjam Wan Sulaiman was asked when the panel would sit, she replied she did not know.

Masrum was also asked whether warning letters have been issued, and he said these would be issued to them soon.
