DAP national chairperson Karpal Singh wants the Dewan Rakyat to adjourn its proceedings to debate a motion to reprimand Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin for the MP’s sexist remarks against Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and his son.
The Bukit Gelugor MP (

Khairy, who is Rembau MP, on Oct 17 tweeted “@PapaGomo Mungkin dia roboh Kampung Buah Pala sebab nak ganti dengan Kampung Buah Dada' (Perhaps he demolished Buah Pala Village to replace it with Breast Village).
Khairy’s quip was a response to claims by pro-Umno bloggers that Lim’s son had allegedly molested a female schoolmate.
The bloggers had also alleged that Lim had paid the victim’s family RM200,000 to keep the matter hushed.
However, Khairy’s tweet did not amuse opposition members, who blasted Khairy for stooping to such depths to gain political mileage.
“These baseless, unfounded, scurrilous and barbaric words directly refer to the 16-year-old son of Bagan MP (Lim), accused by bloggers of outraging the modesty of a woman,” said Karpal in his motion.
Tweet ‘defamatory’
Karpal said Khairy is guilty of “criminal defamation” for his comments that the latter has yet to retract despite repeated demands for him to do so coupled with an apology.
“Khairy has clearly committed an offence of criminal defamation against (Lim’s son) under Section 500 of the Penal Code and in view of the derogatory remarks on Twitter against all women in the country and in view of the implication of the said remark.
“This is a definite matter of urgent public importance as the words attributed (to Khairy) brings the House into disrepute in that it impinges on its integrity and dignity with YB Rembau’s membership of the House,” said Karpal.
The veteran lawyer also yesterday said that Khairy’s linking the CM with the destruction of Kg Buah Pala was defamatory and that DAP is mulling a civil suit against the Rembau MP.
The DAP, who has been up in arms over the blogs’ allegations, has revealed that the alleged victim is a renowned international chess champion Anya Corke who has claimed not to know Lim’s son.
Corke, who is currently studying at Wellesley College, is a chess women grandmaster and the first-ever woman to play for the Boston Blitz, a Cambridge-based team that competes in the United States Chess League.
She has denied the allegation of having been molested in any way.
