A Penang-based NGO is flabbergasted by Malay politicians who resort to leveling sexual allegations to end the political career of opponents.

Penang Malay Congress president Rahmad Isahak described such tactics as "desperado politicking" that are intended to seize political power without benefitting the community.

He said Pakatan Rakyat and BN will continue to point fingers at each other.

Pakatan, for example, has accused Umno of being the "mastermind" behind the unsubstantiated allegation levelled recently at the Penang chief minister’s teenage son.

"But ... it must be made known to the Malay community that porno politics are not the philosophy of Malay politicians," Rahmad told a press conference today.

"As an independent and neutral NGO, we express disappointment and feel insulted if the allegation is baseless and has been simply played up by some Malay leaders.

"Please do not drag the dignity of Malay politicians to the lowest level and do not let it come to the stage where Malays leaders are rejected by their own community.”

azlan Rahmad was referring to pro-Umno bloggers who had alleged that Lim Guan Eng's 16-year-old son had allegedly molested a female schoolmate and that the victim’s family had been paid  RM200,000 as ‘hush money’.

The alleged victim, whose photo was posted in the blogs, has publicly denied the matter.

Umno leaders such as Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his deputy Muhyiddin Yassin have distanced themselves from the claims in the blogs.

But Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin has landed in hot soup for having tweeted a message referring to 'breasts' at the height of the controversy.

‘Umno must clarify’

Rahmad said the Malays are tired and fed-up of dirty politics, given that the community’s socio-economic problems are put aside whenever such matters are highlighted.

If it is true that Malays leaders are behind the “malicious” allegation against a Chinese Malaysian leader, he noted, this could become a liability in the next general election.

Rahmad urged Lim, the DAP national secretary-general, to lodge a police report against the bloggers involved and expressed hope that the police will be professional enough to launch a serious investigation.

"The burden of probability that (Umno) leader are behind this tactic must now be clarified by (the party) to be baseless, if (it) is not involved. This is necessary, rational and relevant if Umno wants to protect its image.

“(If it does not), it will (have cause to) regret (this) in the coming polls because BN will not get the support it needs (from both) non-Malays (and) Malays.

"I am making this suggestion to help improve the image and reputation of Malay leaders across the board.”
