Feedlot project failed due to 'lack of knowledge'

He said the failure of the project , as highlighted in the 2010 Auditor-General’s Report, was due to failure of the operators concerned to carry out the project well.
Hence, he called on agriculture graduates to venture into the field.
“We see many graduates do not want to work in the agriculture sector because they think agriculture is for the poor, laborious and dirty, but they do not know the huge returns it brings.
“They should change their mindset so that the knowledge they acquired can be utilised,” he said at a media conference after the ‘Convoy with Datuk Jo’ programme at Kampung Palas, Tobiar near Pendang today.
Mohd Johari gave an example of a fish rearing project carried out by a company in China which had been able to export RM1 billion worth of products annually.
He attributed the company’s success to its workers, who were graduates in aquaculture, besides having its own research and development (R&D) centre.
He also suggested Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) to collaborate with agriculture agencies in the country so that its students could be sent to do their practical training with farmers.
