Raja Aziz Addruse - good men never die

VOXPOP 'They dwell in the hearts of the beneficiaries from their deeds. They leave a legacy, for the fresh new generations.'

Bar auditorium renamed after Raja Aziz Addruse

vox populi small thumbnail Simon Lee 3ed5: The late Raja Aziz Addruse was a very learned and towering Malay of integrity, well-respected and loved by all.

He was a true Malaysian and patriot who stood up for the rights of all Malaysians, unlike the bunch of politicians in Umno with big useless titles and bloated egos, ‘bocor' MPs, highly corrupt millionaires, ‘I am Malay first' racists, ‘I help you, you help me' crooks, and the supremacist bigots running the country down and corrupting and destroying the judiciary.

Raja Aziz was a rare breed of Malay and we are glad his distinguished services and contribution to the legal profession is now recognised and that he is rightfully bestowed this honour (of the Bar Council auditorium being renamed Raja Aziz Addruse auditorium).

He should have been the lord president or chief justice of this country, but unfortunately, honest and competent legal minds are not the criteria for consideration to the judiciary in this country.

Righteous: Good men never die. They dwell in the hearts of those who benefited from their good deeds. They leave a legacy for the fresh new generation.

His children, grandchildren henceforth shall pick up the banner. We will rock you, AG (attorney-general).

Anonymous_5fb: Like the late Raja Aziz Adruse, I wouldn't want to associate myself to any titles. We may have the same reason, but that's not important anyway.

Malaysia has lost a prominent son in legal field with the demise of Raja Aziz. My heartfelt sadness to his family for their lost of a dear husband and father.

Sultan warns he'll quit as chancellor over illegal rallies

Chuath: What an interesting solution to the problem of students participating in 'illegal rallies' and female students getting involved in immoral activities.

As a parent, it sounds like the 'why' does not matter but it's "do it, because I say so" stance.

I think that used to work when I was young, but perhaps it would not cut it today. The young ones need to know good solid reasons and they don't seem to care much about other people's reputation.

We must not discourage them from thinking and acting rationally, and with principles.

DannyLoHH: I do not understand the logic behind his royal highness Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar's threats to resign over illegal rallies.

Furthermore, student rallies are part of the fight for academic freedom, which is essential for the survival of a university and a country. If Sultan Ibrahim does not believe in academic freedom, perhaps it's better that he should resign from all the posts he holds in all education institutions.

If anything, a sultan who has the best interests of his subjects at heart would support rallies of his subjects who are fighting for their fundamental rights and freedoms.

Only tyrants suppress the people from voicing out against injustice and oppression.

SKS: The problem is that the royals think that the BN government will continue to protect them forever. But no one is looking at the bigger picture. Our national debt is ballooning.

The day it burst (which would be very soon), the first to attack the royals is the BN government. They will blame them for everything.

Remember what Dr Mahathir Mohamad did in 1993?

Andrew Yap: If a gathering to express freedom of speech is a crime that tarnish the good name of a institution, how come Harvard, Yale, Oxford, Cambridge or other world-renowned universities remain the most highly respected institutions of learning?

1M: Firstly, illegal rallies will not threaten national stability, it only threaten Umno-BN's chance of winning GE13.

Secondly, while studying hard to garner knowledge, students should also be encouraged to think and act rationally instead of just accepting whatever lies being told to them by Umno-BN.

Thirdly, the university's reputation will not be ruined by students having rallies to voice out their view against the corrupted Umno-BN, but rather I will be ashamed of them if they just keep quiet.

Anonymous_5fb: I don't know why sultans, sultanahs and for that matter PM's wife Rosmah Mansor, were and are appointed chancellor of local universities in the first place.

Are these peoples with academic credentials, not to mention other qualities - whether in moral ground or otherwise - that qualify them as chancellor?

Human Being: Give Sultan Ibrahim the benefit of the doubt. Maybe he is reading from a prepared speech written by a low-ranking lecturer under the orders of one of the head of department (who was instructed to do so by the dean, but delegated it to his subordinates).

That's academic life in Malaysia.

Joker: Who was it that protested against the government-of-the-day during the pre-Merdeka period? They were mostly ordinary citizens, including students, but not the royalty, despite it being the royals who were treated as puppets by the British colonial masters.

If the students had not joined in the 'illegal rallies' to demand for Merdeka and restoration of the royalty's pride and position, I doubt the royals today could enjoy their ever bigger and luxurious palaces today.

If anyone should at all be grateful to any parties, it is the royals who should be grateful to the ordinary citizens who fought to restore the royalty and paid taxes to sustain their lifestyle.

No citizen should be asked to be grateful to the government, because the government would not exist if not for the citizens. It is like asking the parents to be grateful to their children simply for not dumping them.
