Hello, two-party system is not a two-race system

VOXPOP 'The argument that Malaysia can't have a two-party system because we are multiracial is a smack in the face of logic.'

Gerakan councillor's speech goes viral, gets bashing

vox populi small thumbnail Podeh: Gerakan councillor Ceylyn Tay, you have said too many silly things but I just want to point out one of your most glaring - the US is a country of immigrants, not even 400 years old; what homogeneous society are you blaring about?

I doubt you know what "homogeneous" means. It's only countries like Bhutan and Japan that can claim to be near homogeneous.

You're too young and ignorant to be giving political speeches. And for goodness sake, avoid Gerakan like the plague.

AngryCow: I have two things to say:

1) US is a not homogenous society, even the whites come from different parts of Europe. However, they offer equal opportunities irrespective of where you come from.

This is why Barack Obama can be president. A Chinese American can be the ambassador to China, even his parents originated from China. So we are talking about a fair system.

Has Gerakan and MCA manage to create that?

2) The two-party system consists of all Malaysians, not only one race. The way you mentioned that it is going to be a two-race system is a lie and used to frighten the rakyat.

PKR is still a Malay-majority party, same as PAS. Only DAP is more Chinese-based, But when the three are combined, are they not similar to BN?

WE R 1: Please don't pick on Tay. She understands the current political scenario and the effects it would bring if we were to have a two-party system based on race - Malays against Chinese.

Friends, be realistic and practical in recognising the political dilemma our country is in.

Kgen: Why did she equate a two-party system to a two-race system? This is a totally illogical. A two-party system can only come about if all races work together to vote out BN.

If Malays vote primarily for BN and Chinese vote primarily for Pakatan, BN will continue to rule forever in a one-party system. Tay as usual tries to twist the real facts to justify BN's obscene rule.

Her concept of minority subservience is not new. Dr Ling Liong Sik, the worse MCA president ever, famously said, "We are a minority race so we should behave like a minority race."

Dr Lim Keng Yaik, ex-Gerakan president said, "We are like beggars".

It looks like MCA, Gerakan and MIC are willing to be Umno lapdogs and servants for a chance to get the crumbs from the gravy train.

Prussiablue: I just finished watching this infamous video. Well, actually I stopped one minute before the end because I couldn't stand the stupidity anymore.

The argument that Malaysia can't have a two-party system because we are multiracial is a smack in the face of logic.

Tay is assuming that everyone would vote on racial basis. There are always differing opinions in every democracy. What Pakatan Rakyat wants is that the division should be based on issues, not race.

P Dev Anand Pillai: This woman is what we must not be. Since the Chinese and Indians are in the minority, we can't expect equal rights? What nonsense!

Ministers' spouse and kin to declare assets to MACC

TTT: Do you think they will check offshore/Swiss/Cayman, etc, accounts as well?

Even in Singapore, there are tons of private banking services there that are very discreet. This would apply to those in the opposition and government.

If I were smart, I would agree to declare my assets as I know I can safely move my money out of the country.

Thiswayoutplease: Please don't treat MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) like a private will-writing agency.

They might as well classify their declarations under OSA (Official Secret Act). What is MACC going to do with the data? This is such a waste of resources.

Changeagent: Declaring assets to MACC in itself is a meaningless gesture unless it is supplemented by a new freedom of information law that allows for the full disclosure of the information to the public, and for the declarations to be verified by an independent audit company of repute.

Onyourtoes: MACC advisory panel chairperson Zaitun Zawiyah Puteh said that assets would be declared ‘soon'? So my question is, when is soon?

And the PM has agreed in ‘principle'? So my next question is, when is he going to agree in practice?

You have not even secured the first step - to get all the members of the administration to declare their assets publicly - and yet you want to comment on Penang's effort.

Frankly, no one bothers about MACC and PM holding the list of declared assets. What difference will this make anyway?

Zaitun, have you heard of the "geography of corruption"? It is very simple; you go to country and if that country is corrupt, all the signs are there for you to see. Just like geographical landscapes, you can't miss those.

Macha97: It's useless to declare to MACC. It should be declared to the public. What can the employees do to their boss? The rakyat is the ultimate boss.
