Police have identified several men allegedly responsible for attacking a Barisan Nasional (BN) pondok parti (temporary operations booth) which left two people injured in Kota Bharu, Kelantan today.

According to Bernama , Kelantan police chief Abd Aziz Nawi said in the 3.30am incident at Penhgkalan Chepa, the group of youths arrived at the booth in a car and motorcycles.

He said the youths, who were carrying a particular political party flag, attacked several men at the booth and damaged cars parked in the area.

Abd Aziz said two of the victims sustained slight injuries and received outpatient treatment at Hospital Kota Bharu.

He added that after being informed of the incident, the police had dispatched a Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) to the scene.

However, no arrests have yet to be made.

Breaches Islam

Commenting on the matter, PAS spiritual leader and Kelantan Menteri Besar Nik Aziz Nik Mat expressed regret over the incident.

"I am saddened by the incident because it breaches Islam and the party principles. Violence is rejected by Islam and is undemocratic.

"...In the history of PAS such (violent) incidents have never happened. PAS does it moderately without weapons or aggression, just ceramah platforms and microphones," he said.

Nik Aziz also advised PAS members not to be carried away.

BN Kelantan deputy chairperson Zaid Ibrahim also expressed regret over the incident.

The EC has allowed the construction of the booths - originally known as pondok panas - after it was banned in 2002.

Bribery charge

In another incident, BN candidate for the Kok Lanas state seat Anuar Musa claimed that certain quarters were bribing voters.

He said he received a report that BN supporters and workers were being offered bribes to defect at the eleventh hour.

Claiming to have proof, he criticised such moves as being undemocratic.

Meanwhile, his PAS opponent Md Ashari Mamat claimed that he was prevented from entering a polling station by an unidentified man this morning.

"I was prevented from entering despite being a candidate. Maybe this man doesn't know anything about elections, he said.

He was later allowed to enter when he asked the man to consult the police officers present.
