Umno Wanita cannot go into the 13th general campaign with a “soldier that has a contagious disease” said its deputy chief Kamilia Ibrahim, alluding to her boss Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.

The vocal Wanita leader defended her call for Wanita chief Shahrizat to step down over the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) scandal linked to her family, likening the situation to an army heading for war.

“Do we want all members to fall ill and die or do we want to quarantine the member first until she recovers, so that the team can continue marching to the battlefield?” said Kamilia ( left ) in an interview with Mingguan Malaysia today.

She said to win the upcoming general election, members and particularly leaders of the wing had to first resolve their problems.

“In this respect, Wanita has to polish its image so that it does not seem to be ridden with controversies,” she said.

 

Two women ‘not close’

 

When asked about her relationship with Shahrizat in the interview, Kamilia said she is“not too close with Shahrizat”, but that they only met for discussions.

The deputy Wanita chief also dismissed the suggestion that she was not popular; the fact she had won the post uncontested, she said, implies she is well-accepted by all quarters.

“I won uncontested because the other candidate had failed to garner enough quota for a nomination,” she said, adding that she is low-profile by nature, but does her work.
