MCA should leave BN in order to prove its commitment to opposing the Lynas rare earths refinery, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng says.

MCA should quit BN and not rejoin until the government cancels the RM2.3 billion project in Pahang because Malaysians have no faith in the MCA president's call for the Lynas plant to be scrapped, Lim said in a statement today.

NONE He said MCA's sudden turn on the issue only highlighted its inconsistency and incredibility, which he described as a ploy to win votes in the general election.

"For MCA to suddenly flip-flop... smacks of sheer opportunism, a desperate and unprincipled attempt to buy votes.

"Would Dr Chua Soi Lek dare to announce that MCA will only rejoin BN when the Lynas plant is closed down?" Lim asked.

He further argued that even in calling for the plant's closure, MCA had proven itself to be a party without principle and backbone.

"For the MCA president to say that it was no longer a matter of whether the plant is safe... shows that it is not right or wrong that matters."

Calling this the "last chance" for MCA to prove itself by "standing under its own banner" in the coming election, Lim said that any failure on its part would allow voters to decide which party to trust.

Lim's dare came in response to Chua's call to the government to scrap the Lynas plant on grounds that the government "could not ignore the views of the people".
