The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) regard the baseless allegation by Perak opposition leader Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin linking the MAF and the prime minister to the outcome of the coming general election as seditious.

MAF chief General Zulkefli Mohd Zin told a news conference in Kuala Lumpur that following the allegation, the MAF would lodge a police report so that the matter could be investigated and action taken against the individual responsible.

He said the whole MAF fraternity was displeased with the Pasir Panjang assemblyman's baseless accusation as it had the motive of tarnishing the image and credibility of the prime minister and MAF.

Mohammad Nizar at a recent ceramah was reported to have alleged that the prime minister had called for a meeting with MAF top guns and senior officials and asked them to do "something" if Barisan Nasional loses in the coming general election.

Mohammad Nizar, who was menteri besar during the Pakatan Rakyat's short rule in Perak, had also allegedly said that the military top guns disagreed and that they would be with the people, following which a heated argument ensued between Najib and them.

Also present at the news conference were Army chief General Zulkifli Zainal Abidin, Air Force chief General Rodzali Daud and Navy deputy chief Vice-admiral Mohammed Noordin Ali.

Zulkefli said such a seditious political statement could cause public confusion and threaten security.

"Of late, some irresponsible quarters with vested political interests have been trying to poison the minds of the people with the aim of eroding public confidence in the MAF and ruling government.

"Therefore, the people are urged not to be influenced by the baseless accusations of these irresponsible individuals as MAF members are professional and will always uphold the Constitution," he said.
