Gerakan, at its 55th state delegates conference today, said it reckoned that the Penang chief minister's leadership style will lead him quickly to his downfall

State Gerakan president Dr Teng Hock Nan said that the party must "thank their lucky stars" that Lim Guan Eng is Penang's CM because the time of change is nigh.

"We do not have to wait long to change the CM. His dictatorial, power crazy and arrogant style will soon see him out of government soon," said Hock Nan at the conference attended by about 200 members.

“If state DAP chief Chow Kon Yeow were the Penang CM, you all would probably have to wait a very long time for change,” added Hock Nan, in his attempt to pit Guan Eng against his long-time comrade whom many feel should have led Penang instead.

NONE Hock Nan castigated Guan Eng ( right ) for his 'arm-twisting" manner in governing the state by directing the Penang Municipal Council to enter into an agreement with a big developer, and then offering the latter better deals for development.

He added that Guan Eng had also misled the people when he took over the state in 2008, saying government files had been 'stolen' by the previous officials, and that the state coffers were empty, which he denied vehemently.

He chided the CM for selling state land - Taman Manggis and Bayan Mutiara - and for not giving priority to affordable housing for Penangites.

He blamed Guan Eng for his dictatorial attitude towards the press and his critics, adding that despite the state's Freedom of Information Act, documents regarding hill projects were not classified properly.

"Maybe he finds it more exciting to just open bit by bit," said Hock Nan, tongue in cheek.

"We must fight to correct the wrongs, not just because they (Pakatan) are opposition," he added.

Pakatan heading for disaster

Meanwhile, Hock Nan scoffed at Pakatan's 'revolutionary-style' of change for the country.

Hock Nan said Pakatan has done this without "proper planning and understanding" among its component partners.

He added that this would only "head for disaster and the people will suffer" as the three political parties - DAP, PAS and PKR - have separate political paths and ideologies.

He urged Gerakan members to continue working harder and play their role to tell the people the "weaknesses" of the Penang government especially on macro issues.

"We must expose the state government's weaknesses that will cause adverse and irreversible consequences to the people," he said at the party's delegate conference in Penang today.

"Certainly, a present authoritarian-style of state government needs an opposition voice for check and balance," he added.
