118 reasons to reject Warisan Merdeka

YOURSAY 'If any fence-sitter needed another reason to throw out the regime, he or she has 118 reasons costing RM5 billion.'

Warisan Merdeka tower to be 118 storeys, says ministry

your say Sad Malaysian: Skyscrapers need a very large road network. How could this mega-tower occupy space just a fifth of the Kuala Lumpur City Centre's (KLCC) area? Impossible.

Even demolishing two stadiums and three schools will not create enough space for the built-up areas. Any sensible person can look at Google Maps to compare the two areas.

Kolopilah: Wisma Dayabumi was such a grand building, right smack in the centre of Kuala Lumpur, where Petronas used to be based.

When the Twin Towers were completed, Petronas moved its base to the Twin Towers, leaving Wisma Dayabumi for dead.

Warisan Merdeka is anticipated to be ready for occupation in due time and Petronas may eventually move on to fill up all the spaces.

Why? Because only Petronas, with all its oil money, will have the funds to spend for such extravagance.

The funds from the new oilfield from Pahang will be gone by then, and the rakyat will twiddle their thumbs. Somebody ought to stop this.

Odin: We see another example of the typical 'first-class bumiputera' mentality - show off and never mind that the pocket is empty and getting practically everything on credit. Or, in this case, heavily burdened by a massive debt.

We can't even come close to Singapore's economy and financial well-being, but here we are going to erect an edifice that will in all likelihood turn into an enlarged version of the white elephant in Jalan Sultan Hishamuddin, Kuala Lumpur (Dayabumi).

Ferdtan: It looks like PM Najib Razak wants to leave a legacy, though wasteful and unproductive, to build the 118-storey Warisan Merdeka tower like his mentor's Dr Mahathir Mohamad's the Petronas Twin Tower.

He doesn't care the money would be better spent on creating more jobs and alleviating hardship among the poor. The house prices are so high that it is now a luxury to own one. A double-storey house in semi-urban area in Klang town costs almost half a million.

To Najib it is a game among them, the BN PMs, to see who can build the tallest building in the world. That is what they care about.

Buildings are non-productive assets. The money, if need to be spent, is better used for productive infrastructure and the development of alternative solar energy.

We just need better and cheaper highways (no money-making toll companies, please) and good public transportation service in all major towns. The savings in transportation brings relief to all.

WaLauWei: Do we really need this building? This building, for sure, will mark a change of era in our government, wait and see.

Bye-bye to a government which is only pretending they hear the rakyat's voice but still doing things according to its wishes.

Caripasal: Warisan Merdeka Tower will become the symbol of Umno's corruption. It will also be the textbook material for political stupidity. Our country is marching closer towards total bankruptcy. Well done, BN.

Banzai: Why settle for No 3 in the world. Go for the top spot. Malaysia is good at that.

Telestai!: This is truly insane. Are we not building Menara Warisan just to keep up with the Joneses?

While Mecca and Dubai can afford to build the tallest buildings with their Petrodollar, this tiny little country with quite a few people living off less than US$1 a day can't.

As the government is in control of off-budget agencies like PNB (Permodalan Nasional Berhad), it is effectively using taxpayers' money.

Please don't tell us it is private funding because if they fail, the government will have to step in. So Najib, please do not use the rakyat's money to boost your ego. Save it for our future generations for the road ahead will be bumpy.

Lover Boy: ‘Yat Yat Fatt' or 118 means prosperity everyday. But who prosper? Ah Jib Kor, only you and your cronies while the rakyat suffer.

Amalgam: Why do we need another high-rise and especially in that congested area with schools and churches and stadiums in its vicinity? The greedy BN government just wants to give out another contract and we all know what that implies.

The area should be used as a green lung and park for the citizens of KL to gather and enjoy the evening breeze, being on higher ground.

Citizens of Kuala Lumpur, we must unite and sign a petition to protest against this totally waste of an initial cost of RM5 billion - the money can be put to better use like improving local transport and road system or the lousy state of public facilities in and around KL.

Anonymous_29dd: Hopefully this project doesn't end up as another Plaza Rakyat beside Pudu Station. The name is on the LRT route but the place doesn't exist.

If BN is adamant to build this tower, than it must be completed on time or not built at all. Delays and cancelling the project halfway during construction is the usual Umno's method of siphoning money.

Abasir: If any fencesitter needed another reason to throw out the regime, he or she has 118 reasons costing RM5 billion.

Anonymous #15167679: Build more roads for Sarawak and Sabah, more schools nationwide and more hospitals in rural growth centres plus improving on the current facilities and medication available in the current overcrowded hospitals and improve the public transportation in all major towns. More affordable housing and more welfare aids to the hardcore poor.

All these shall bring in votes to power and improve the economy and ensure a wider spread of the gravy, especially among the rakyat.

Het: Najib's ‘People First, Performance Now' has become ‘White Elephant First, Construction Now'.
