Umno Youth has proposed a moratorium on the issuance of summonses for traffic offences under the Automated Enforcement System (AES), until motorists are ready for its implementation.

Its exco member, Mohd Hisamuddin Yahaya, commended the idea of AES as it could reduce the rate of road accidents but noted its implementation was badly planned.

He said the Transport Ministry and the Road Transport Department should carry out a campaign to ensure the people understood the government’s intention to reduce road accidents.

“For that purpose, the ministry is urged to fully utilise the mass media. Apart from that, the authorities should also place warning signs on roads to alert motorists of impending AES installations.

“If road users are still adamant and continue to speed, then we could book them and the people would not be upset with the government.

“Let there be a trial period, maybe over a few months, and in the meantime, we should stop issuing summonses,” he told reporters after an Umno Youth Caring programme at Kampung Sepakat Jaya, Titi Gantung near Parit today.
