The PAS Muslimat wing has urged party leaders to concentrate on winning seats and not be distracted by talk of being the prime minister or being the core of Pakatan Rakyat.

During the winding-up speech at the 58th PAS muktamar in Kota Baru today, the wing's information chief Aiman Athirah Al-Jundiaiman said the party must first prove its worth before seeking a dominating position.

"The most important thing is if we want to capture Putrajaya it is through hard work and not just words.

"Do not insist that we be the leader (prime minister) or to become the core in Pakatan," said Aiman Athirah, in making the wing's closing statements.

The wing appear to be addressing the ulama wing which had yesterday nominated party president Abdul Hadi Awang as Pakatan's prime ministerial candidate.

Aiman Athirah said that should PAS really want Abdul Hadi to be the country's seventh prime minister, the party must first win all 60 Parliamentary seats it will be contesting in.

"Only then are we worthy to be the leader," she said.

Taking the podium for his winding-up speech later, Abdul Hadi joked that he felt " syok (good)" for a moment at suggestions that he  should be prime minister, before attempting to ground his delegates.

"But I would like to stress here: I asked God to ensure that our ambition is Islam's victory," he said, returning to his trademark serious tone.

'Don't count chickens yet'

To stress his point further, Abdul Hadi recounted a fishing trip anecdote involving Kedah Menteri Besar Azizan Abdul Aziz, to advise delegates to not be carried away with the topic of who should be premier.

"I do not want to be like ustaz Azizan. He knows I like to go fishing so when I went to Kedah, he invited me to go fishing.

"Before departing, he asked for spices to be prepared for a river carp fish. But after we finished fishing, all we got was a small fish... the spices were prepared even before we got any fish," he said.

Elaborating on this at a press conference later, Abdul Hadi brushed aside DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang's declaration at a ceramah in Kota Baru on Friday that PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim would be the future prime minister.

"Anything can be said in a ceramah," he said, adding that he concurred with Anwar's statement today that the matter can be discussed later.

"We must win the election first... for if we appoint someone as senator (to be prime minister), that would not carry the rakyat's spirit," he said.

Asked if the prime minister should come from whichever party that wins the most seats in Parliament, he replied: "Wait for us to win first".
