It is BN’s corrupt rule, not Malays losing power, that would make them refugees in their own land, said PKR.

“Why would the Malays be marginalised if they lose political power? After more than 50 years Umno has been in power, is it not enough time to improve the livelihood of the Malays?

“The Malays will become refugees in their own land, not because they can’t compete economically but because of the BN government’s actions in bringing in foreigners and giving them identity cards to enable BN to win the upcoming 13th general election,” said Wanita PKR chief Zuraida Kamaruddin.

She was responding to Wanita Umno chief Shahrizat Jalil who in her speech at the wing’s general assembly on Wednesday called for Malays to unite to retain political power and lest they become marginalised.

Playing up the usual racial bogeyman, Shahrizat claimed that the country’s economic power was in the hands of non-Malays and Umno losing power would equate to Malays “losing power” as well.

She also warned that the situation would lead to another May 13.

Zuraida said Shahrizat should not play the race card as it does not reflect Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s 1Malaysia concept.

“Shahrizat should accept the fact that the Malays assisted by Umno are their families and Umno’s cronies concerned with filling their stomachs while the rakyat below can only taste the leftovers from the assistance.”

She also called for Umno to wake up to the fact that the people do not feel that Umno will fight for their rights as many Umno and government officials are suspected of corruption scandals.

“Umno’s actual challenge is to ensure a win for BN’s component parties in order that their dirty work do not fall into Pakatan Rakyat’s hands, who will definitely haul those involved to justice.

“Thus, I would like to remind Shahrizat to stop with the superficial and shallow politics that fools the Malays with racial sentiments as the people are not stupid and they are able to tell the difference between glass and diamond,” she added.

NGO to launch police report

Meanwhile, Angkatan Warga Aman Malaysia (WargaAman) is planning to lodge a police report against Shahrizat’s comment on Wednesday as they deem its reference to May 13 as “dangerous”.

“WargaAman describes Shahrizat’s statement as infused with threats, intimidation and incitement to trigger chaos among the citizens of Malaysia,” said its secretary S Barathidasan in a statement today.

“Therefore, WargaAman urges all NGOs regardless of race and religion to lodge police statements all over the country against Shahrizat’s statement.”
