DAP national chairperson Karpal Singh has expressed surprise that the Home Ministry has “blundered” over the party’s election report to the Registrar of Societies (ROS).

DAP was supposed to submit the report within 60 days of its last national congress which was held in Penang on Dec 15 and 16.

“I am suprised that Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein could make such a blunder,” said Karpal during his constituency visit to Air Itam today.

“It was  irresponsible of him since he failed to check and get his facts right,” said Karpal at a press conference in the area.

“I hope ROS will not be influenced by any party or the government,” he added.

Karpal was referring to Hishammuddin’s giving the green light to the ROS to begin investigations into DAP, which had allegedly failed to submit its report by Feb 15.

Hishammuddin had reportedly claimed that DAP had yet to submit its report as it was supposed to do within the 60-day period, urging that necessary action be taken by ROS against the party.

“I urge the ROS to thoroughly investigate the matter, and the person who caused the confusion,” said the Bukit Gelugor MP.

“The DAP was brave enough to make the party’s election results public after a technical glitch that caused some miscalculation in the party election results,” he added.

The rectified results meant that Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s political secretary Zairil Khir Johari being added into the 20 elected central executive committee (CEC) post as he garnered 803 votes.

Zairil, who earlier won only 305 votes, had initially failed to make it and was one of the 10 appointees to be added to the CEC.

Karpal then explained that the  party had submitted the elections report to the ROS on Feb 8.

He added that the party had complied with the requirements of filing the report in 60 days from the date of the party’s national congress on Dec 15 last year.
