Police today returned the Toyota Hilux truck, registered in the name of Lumut Umno Youth, that was involved in a hit-and-run incident that killed a senior citizen in Manjung, Perak.

"The vehicle was returned yesterday," Manjung district police headquarters traffic investigating officer Muhammad Ikhwan Abdul Hamid told Malaysiakini .

NONE Ikhwan said investigations were still going on, under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

"We have called in and taken down statements from the deceased's husband and the vehicle driver. We had already taken down several statements on the day of the incident.

"We have (before this) sent the vehicle to the technical department and vehicular inspection unit Puspakom for further investigation."

Ikhwan said police were still waiting for Puspakom's full technical report.

On Monday, China Press had reported that a 73-year old senior citizen, on her way back home from a rubber estate on a motorcycle, was killed after she was hit by a truck , whose occupants fled the scene.

However, the driver and an occupant first stopped to removed a flag with the 1Malaysia logo from the truck, but did not assist the victim.

NONE Lumut Umno Youth chief Mohd Shahril Yahaya admitted that one of his members was involved in the incident but denied that the person tried to flee the scene.

Shahril claimed that the person involved only drove away to a location a hundred metres away because  he was scared of several "tattooed men" at the scene.
