In light of DAP’s move to field its top leaders in Johor ahead of the general election, MCA president Chua Soi Lek urged the Chinese community to back his party as BN-led Johor has proven to be a better success story than Pakatan Rakyat-led Penang.

“When Lim Guan Eng became Penang chief minister, he boasted that Penang was number one in foreign direct investment but today he is silent because it is now in seventh place.

NONE “But Johor has consistently achieved second place most of the time and if sometimes MCA works harder, we would achieve first place,” Chua ( seated, centre in photo ) told a press conference at the MCA headquarters today.

He added that even in terms of job creation, Lim had boasted about the creation of over 20,000 job for Penang, but this has fallen to about 10,000 last year.

“But if you look at Johor’s figure, job creation is consistently at 25,000 to 30,000 and in the last two years, it hit 40,000 due to developments in Iskandar and Pengerang,” he said.

“We want to tell the Chinese community that Johor under BN has done better than Penang at any time and our performance is consistently consistent,” he said.

Chua also lamented that the Chinese community had yet to come to the realisation that supporting DAP would strengthen PAS which eventually harm the community due to its ultra-conservatives stance.

‘We’ll win the Chinese at the last minute’

When it was pointed out that MCA had failed make the Chinese community see the light on its argument so near to the general election, Chua said he was confident that the community will come around at the last minute.

The Chinese community is very pragmatic, we still have confidence that at the last minute they will not have confidence in PAS and DAP,” he said.

He also mocked DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang’s announcement of the Gelang Patah declaration to uplift the Indian community on March 31.

“Pakatan made no mention of the Indian community in its manifesto - to which we can only conclude they (Pakatan)) do not care about them.

“But when they realised they need Indian support, they come out with the declaration, so which is it now? Buku Jingga, manifesto or the declaration?” he said.

He urged the Indian community not to be fooled again by lending their support to DAP.

Chua also issued a challenge to a DAP representative to contest under the PAS banner to prove its multiracial credentials.
