With parliament finally dissolved, opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim continue his push for a public debate with the BN.

NONE “I reiterate my proposal for a public debate to caretaker Prime Minister Mohd Najib Abdul Razak,” said Anwar at a press conference in Petaling Jaya today.

“He can defend BN’s policies while we can showcase our proposed policies,” reasoned the opposition leader.

Anwar had repeated the debate proposal to BN and Najib several times but as yet the ruling coalition has refused to take part, calling the practice common in many mature democracies as “foreign” to Malaysian political culture.

The opposition leader also welcomed Najib’s promise of a peaceful transition should BN lose and Pakatan assume the government.

NONE “We in Pakatan will respect the peace... But I urge BN, especially Umno, to follow ethics and election rules,” he said.

Anwar also urged the security forces, especially the police, to be professional in their tasks and help ensure a peaceful and fair election and transition.

He said that he was “cautiously optimistic” about the election and possibilities of a Pakatan win.
