The website of anti-establishment radio stations Radio Free Sarawak and Radio Free Malaysia and affliated whistleblower website Sarawak Report are still trying to fight off digital attacks which started this week.

The media entities' management said that this coincided with "various forms of jamming" which have affected broadcast of the stations accessible via short wave, medium wave and through the Internet.

The management added that yesterday, Sarawak Report alone suffered 64 million hits "designed to take down its server".

NONE "The sister sites for the radio stations received similar attacks.

"Most of the attacks have radiated out of Russia and East Europe and site administrators were able to fend off the onslaught until the site itself was hacked earlier today," they said.

According to founder and editor Clare Rewcastle Brown ( left ), the websites and radio stations were based in London to avoid Malaysian government censorship, but the latter is now resorting to "dishonourable" distributed denial of service (DDOS) attacks.

"It is really quite shameful that a government such as Malaysia's should consider it appropriate to resort to hiring criminals with the taxpayers' money.

"They talk about the benefits of winning the 'cyber-war' as if there was some honour in what they are doing," she said.
