One day after it was disclosed that PKR was considering several candidates for the post of Selangor menteri besar if the opposition pact were to retain power in the state, incumbent Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said he still wishes to be menteri besar.
Abdul Khalid said he would offer himself for the post if the opposition pact were to win more than the 36 state seats it won in the 2008 general election.
Asked whether he would defend the Ijok state seat that he won in the 12th general election, or move over to the Port Klang state seat in the 13th poll, he said the suggestion for him to contest in Port Klang came from the PKR top leadership to boost the party strength.
"As the menteri besar, I must be willing to accept any proposal made by the party leadership. I have yet to decide.
“The decision will be announced on Sunday. It's not only the party that must agree, I too must give my agreement," he said.
Yesterday, PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail hinted that Abdul Khalid might not be retained if PKR were to be returned to power and the party now had several potential candidates for the post besides Abdul Khalid.
