Sarawak DAP and its ally PKR have settled the overlapping in four seats a day before nomination day, with DAP giving up the Miri and Sri Aman seats while PKR agreed not to contest in Stampin and Mas Gading.

This means Pakatan has arrived at a consensus that the coalition will face a straight fight with BN parties.

Sarawak DAP has decided this afternoon to give Miri and Sri Aman to PKR, said its chief Wong Ho Leng during a press conference held in Sibu.

"We will be contesting 11 seats instead of 13," he announced

“We will let PKR stand in Miri (and Sri Aman). If we stand in the seats, we will be using PKR’s logo. Would you lend me your logo to fight you?” he offered by way of explanation.

“Man proposes but God disposes, the party has no choice,” he said when asked if the party succumbed to PKR.

Both DAP and PKR have overlaps in four seats, which include two Chinese majority urban seats, Miri and Stampin, and two Dayak seats, Mas Gading and Sri Aman.

DAP has yesterday announced its candidates Lim Su Kien and Leon Jimat Donald to contest in Miri and Sri Aman respectively, while PKR has announced Boniface Willy Anak Tumek to stand in Mas Gading.

DAP has originally decided to contest in 14 seats, but later decided to give up Mambong.Wong has said yesterday that the party would not give in further to its allies.

Sarawak DAP secretary Chong Chieng Jen today confirmed both parties had arrived at a package agreement, with each party not contesting in two seats.

Chong refused to explain further the reason that led to DAP’s decision, saying it would be redundant as the party’s task ahead is to do its best in the current situation.
