SARAWAK Caretaker Defence Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he will have an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong to discuss the fate of National Service Training Council (MLKN) chairperson Tiki Lafe who has decided to contest as an independent candidate in the 13th general election.

NONE Tiki Lafe ( left ) who is the incumbent for the Mas Gading Parliament seat has decided to stand as an independent candidate against his arch rival Patrick Anak Uren from Parti Reformasi Negeri Sarawak (Star), Barisan Nasional's (BN) Nogeh Gumbek and DAP's Mordi Bimol.

Patrick Uren and Tiki Lafe have been foes in the general election since 1982.

"I will have an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong because the appointment of Tiki Lafe as the MLKN chairperson was done under the MLKN Act and the appointment with consent from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong," he told reporters in Kuching yesterday.

Meanwhile, speaking of former Selangor menteri besar Muhamad Muhamad Taib's decision to join PAS, Ahmad Zahid, who is also an Umno vice-president, said such a decision could have been due to disappointment.

"He is frustrated because his expected candidate was not chosen... simple as that. It was the same with Umno deputy chief Kamalia Ibrahim who decided to stand as an independent candidate for a parliament seat and not a state seat... she, too, was disappointed... I wish them good luck," he said.

Kamilia shocked the Barisan Nasional camp when she decided to contest for the Kuala Kangsar seat.

For her action, she was sacked from Umno.
