MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek said he will stay out of the party's internal election that will take place soon.

Chua, who announced this in a press release today, did not state why he is choosing not to defend his position.

He will go down in history for leading the party to its worst electoral outing ever.

MCA won seven out of 37 parliamentary seats contested and 11 out of 90 state legislative assembly seats contested.

In 2008, the MCA won 15 Parliamentary seats and 32 state seats.

"I accept MCA’s losses and the party will not take up any government post at state and federal levels.

"This was in accordance to the unanimous decision approved at the party’s EGM and unanimously endorsed by the central committee," he said.

Chinese were misguided?

The party had in 2011 decided not to accept any government positions - including cabinet positions - if it did worse than in 2008.

Meanwhile, Chua said MCA respects the decision of the voters.

"This is what democracy is all about," he said.

However, Chua had parting shots aimed the Chinese community, which had largely voted against BN.

"It is also clear that the voting was made along ethnic lines with the Chinese believing that the DAP can change the government.

"Voting the Chinese out of the state and federal government will not help solve dissatisfaction with the government," he said.

However, Chua said that he believed soon-to-be sworn-in prime minister Najib Abdul Razak will continue with his inclusive policy and continue to look after the interest of the Chinese community.
