The Klang MCA division today announced the closure of its people’s service centre in Kampung Baru Pandamaran in Klang, with immediate effect.

This follows its disappointment with the Chinese voters who did not support the party, especially in the Klang parliamentary constituency.

Division chairperson Teh Kim Poo said the decision to close the centre, which had been operating for the past five years, was also due to financial reason as the party could no longer afford to bear its management cost.

He said this was because the cost of managing the service centre - set up to assist the people in the district - was funded by the division’s own resources.

“We (Klang MCA division) saw the 13th general election (GE13) results, especially in the Klang parliamentary seat and the four state seats in the constituency, as reflecting the voters non-acceptance of our service and hence, did not choose us in the election.

“Apart from that, we deeply regret the results as the DAP and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) candidates contesting in the Klang area, came to the area for just two weeks and won,” he said in a media conference in Klang today.

Teh said the situation was different for Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates like him, in having contested the Klang parliamentary seat, Nasarruddin M. Zin (Port Klang state seat) and Ching Eu Boon (Pandamaran), who have been rendering service to help solve problems of the people in the district in the past five years.

He also announced the resignation of 15 members of the Federal Village Development and Safety Committee (JKKKP) in Kampung Baru Pandamaran, with immediate effect.

Meanwhile, Teh called on MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek not to resign, but continue leading the party until the next party election.

“Stabilise the party first before deciding to resign, or not to contest in the party election,” he said.   

He also advised MCA leaders and members not to issue any statement which could further complicate the situation and damage the party’s image.

In GE13, Teh contested the Klang parliamentary seat but lost to DAP candidate Charles Anthony R Santiago by a majority of 24,685 votes while Ching, who stood for the Pandamaran state seat, lost to Tan Pok Shyong (DAP) by a 9,176-vote majority.

Nasaruddin, who contested in the Port Klang state seat, lost to PKR candidate Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, who was Selangor menteri besar, by a majority of 2,994 votes.

Another BN candidate, Maglin Dennis D’Cruz, who contested in Kota Alam Shah, lost to V Ganabatirau of DAP by a 13,369 vote majority.
