Simmering discontent among MCA grassroots are threatening to boil over and may spell a premature end to party president Dr Chua Soi Lek's career.

The opening salvo was fired by three MCA division chiefs from Selangor who issued a joint press statement urging Chua to resign immediately to take responsibility for MCA's disastrous polls showing.

The trio - Tan Chong Seng (Kuala Selangor), Lee Wei Keat (Subang) and Liew Yuen Keong (Serdang) - said that Chua had ceded three parliamentary seats and two state seats while providing far-fetched reasons for doing so, thus affecting party morale.

NONE Chua was also accused of only appointing those loyal to him as candidates, while squeezing out dissidents and not allowing them to contest.

In addition this, the trio had blamed Chua for adopting the wrong strategies and making inappropriate statements, resulting in MCA vote canvassers facing ridicule and criticisms from the Chinese community.

"Our troops have fallen like a hill. We contested 37 parliamentary seats and 90 state seats. We won seven and 11.

"The president blamed it on the Chinese believing the DAP's 'Ubah' slogan, causing a 'two-race system'.

"He is shirking his responsibility. There was no introspection. He did not ask why the Chinese abandoned MCA," said the trio.

Meanwhile, former MCA disciplinary board deputy chairperson Chan Tse Yuen said any leader with principles would have resigned.

"Penang BN chief Teng Chang Yeow immediately resigned. This is the mark of a leader worthy of praise," he said.

Chan said that rejuvenation is necessary in order to the party to rebuild itself. He warned that if the "disease" was not treated, the party would suffer even worse consequences.

Yesterday, Chua said that he would not be seeking re-election during the party polls, slated for later this year.
