Following the urging by many Umno leaders for the posts of party president and deputy president to remain uncontested later this year, the same proposal has been made for the post of Umno Youth chief.

NONE According to a Berita Harian report today, Umno Youth economics and entrepreneurship bureau chief Sohaimi Shahadan (left) said the wing's recent exco meeting had made the decision in order to strengthen the party.

“The purpose is to consolidate the party. They are many agenda that we need to solve at national level. We don't want to have disunity.

“The same goes for the posts of president and vice-president. If their contributions are good, we would retain (them in the posts),”  he was quoted as saying during an event in Kota Baru yesterday.

However the report did not specify whether the “posts of president and vice-president” refer to Umno or the Youth wing.

Sohaimi also praised incumbent Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin as an icon for young leaders, due to his contributions and hard work.
