A PKR parliamentarian has demanded that the temporary operating licence (TOL) issued to the Lynas Advanced Materials Plant (Lamp) in Gebeng, Kuantan, be revoked immediately.

                                   

NONE This is because the company has failed to come up with a plan for a permanent disposal facility (PDF) for radioactive wastes, Kuantan MP Fuziah Salleh ( left ) said.

Fuziah told a press conference at the Parliament lobby today that the 10-month deadline for this condition in the TOL had expired yesterday.

The TOL was issued on Sept 3 last year. However, since its terms and conditions have never been made public by the Atomic Energy Licensing Board (AELB), she said the people were not aware as to how many of these conditions have been met.

"(Information on) the conditions (linked to) the PDF was based on statements by the AELB and also by ministers in charge of Lynas," she said.

With Lynas being "protected by Malaysian authorities", Fuziah said, the company has managed to "pull wool" over the eyes of the public by merely highlighting issues of radiation.

Issues concerning the environment and public health have not been publicised, she added.
