Umno polls coming, expect more race baiting

YOURSAY 'Someone should make a fictional film about the real history of Umno as stooges of colonial Britain.'

Umno Youth sees red over Chinese new village film

your say CiViC: I've not watched ‘The New Village'. So I'm not going to judge the movie, but I also have no trust whatsoever in Umno Youth exco Lokman Noor Adam's claims that it ‘glorifies communism', in which I assume he himself has not watched the full movie.

While one should learn the meaning of the word ‘hypocrite' if the movie ‘The New Village' is to be banned, does it mean ‘Tanda Putera' will be banned too?

Voice: Does the film ‘The New Village' have the tendency of creating racial hatred among the races? If yes, by all means ban it.

But do the same thing to ‘Tanda Putera' in that case. The issue of the movie glorifying communism is not relevant.

My4Hope: Yes, the communists are devils, so please tell our Foreign Affairs Department to cut off diplomatic ties with China.

Holden: Lokman Noor Adam, continue to beat your drum and to bellow loudly about this fictional account to give it greater publicity.

By doing so, you're giving it greater street cred because now we all want to know what you're so threatened by in this movie.

On the other hand, ‘Tanda Putera' is an example of a historical incident fictionalised to serve your party's hegemony. Go brood on that.

Chritopher Loi: How stupid - one is a movie (you know what a movie is - imagination, love story, science fiction, etc).

The other is made into a movie with reasons to create or invoke feelings/anger toward a certain political party or race (face the facts - history is what they want you to believe).

Multi Racial: If ‘Tanda Putera' had been rejected for public screening, maybe at least he may have some argument. Now that ‘Tanda Putera' is allowed to screen, why is he still complaining?

Is Lokman complaining for the sake of complaining, or because the Umno election is coming, and he has to find an issue to keep himself visible? Probably both, I suppose.

FellowMalaysian: What makes ‘Tanda Putera' controversial is that its producer, Shuhaimi Baba has consistently claimed that the movie depicts historical scenes during the highly-charged May 13 racial riots.

‘Tanda Putera' is also funded and sanctioned by Finas, the national film board which made the movie appear like there's no negative elements in the movie when in reality, it should be considered as a highly undesirable movie to be played out to the Malaysian audience simply because it does not portray the actual historical events and will therefore conjure a distorted impression of May 13.

Former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad's support for its screening should be considered as a disgusting malevolent action.

‘The New Village' is just another fictional movie where the theme of the day thrives on the farcical, much like what Jackie Chan's movies is all about.

Supercession: Someone should make a fictional film about the real history of Umno as stooges of colonial Britain.

Anonymous_4056: The Chinese do not view the police or the Malay Regiment as their enemies. It is Umno and Umno alone that is the enemy of Chinese, and Umno must be destroyed at all cost. We will wait for that day.

Changeagent: Lokman, there's no need to call for the immediate screening of ‘Tanda Putera'. At least half the population have already been forced to see it through test screenings, advanced screenings or illegal screenings by the Umno fan club.

Fair And Just: Releasing 'The New Village' on Aug 22 and 'Tanda Putra' on Aug 29 appears to be a calculated move to revive old arguments and open new wounds by first stimulating one group to anger, arousing negative emotions, then another group likewise, with abandon, when all the racial and religious issues raised thus far have proved counter-productive.

You have to read the comments of Malaysiakini readers to get a feel of the reaction.

KT Lim: The British have acknowledged that without the help of the communists during the invasion by the Japanese, Malaya would probably not become Malaysia today. Britain conferred two OBEs (Order of the British Empire) on communist leader Chin Peng.

I don't condone the atrocities of the communist insurgents of that period but truth be told, all races suffered and equally contributed to the well-being of this country which we call home. So go back and study our real history.

Human Being: We must ban movies from United Kingdom and Japan because they glorify their country and army. The British and Japanese had once conquered this land, didn't they?

Anonymous #68219004: Malaysian history must be told exactly from all angles not just one that glorifies race and party. Remember, without the combined efforts of all races, communism could not have been defeated. Everybody played their role.

For the past 50 years, Malaysian history has been changed and altered to look as if only one race and party was responsible for Malaysia's success.

This gross distortion is what makes this fat joker say what he says given he must have been brought up with all that garbage.

Sunflower11: I think the fact that PM Najib Razak sent his son to study in Beijing is subtly supporting communism, too.

Worse still, it hurts the feeling of our soldiers. Yes, I can spin another 100 twisted facts like these...
