"Give Islam a chance, especially since laws created by man have failed to curb crime which are becoming more serious by the day," he said.
Nasrudin said this when asked to elaborate further on his suggestion to adopt syariah law to curb rising crime, made in a press statement on Wednesday.
Hudud not the silver bullet
However, his detractors, particularly MCA, have accused PAS of taking advantage of the recent spate of gun crimes to justify their theocratic ambitions.
"MCA have repeatedly pointed out the ensuing injustice and oppression once PAS hudud enactments are implemented," MCA Beliawanis chief Tee Hooi Ling said yesterday.
She also said that enacting hudud "does not guarantee" fewer incidences of crime in the country.
"I urge PAS to refrain from taking advantage of the recent spate of shootings to introduce their hardline versions of PAS hudud enactments," she said.
