More than a month after news of the 'canteen in shower room' broke, SK Seri Pristana headmaster Mohd Nasir Mohd Noor has apologised to parents.

NONE "The SK Seri Pristana issue was finally resolved yesterday with the headmaster's apology," Malaysian Tamilan Today secretary K Gunasekaran (left) said.

"We thank all quarters involved, including the Selangor Education Department director, elected representatives, NGOs, parents and the media."

However, Malaysian Indian Progressive Association secretary-general S Barathidasan said an apology was not sufficient.

"The headmaster should be suspended or transferred to serve as a lesson to others. Otherwise, there will be no end to such incidents," he told Malaysiakini .

NONE Barathidasan (left) also suggested that the Education Ministry comes up with a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for school heads and teachers.

"Although this is an issue of common sense, sadly it seems our teachers and (headmasters) need a SOP to remind them about the boundaries," he added.

Agreeing with this, Malaysian Hindu Movement leader S Sanjay also called for stern action to be taken against the SK Seri Pristana headmaster.

"After this incident, the HM should not be allowed to continue in that school. He might be spiteful towards the pupils... He should be transferred, it is better to lose him than to lose the pupils," Sanjay said.

"By right, he should have been sacked. Even if it involves a transfer, he should be sent to a school in the remote interiors of Malaysia, where he can reflect on his actions."

Some parents not informed

Three of the disgruntled parents, who had earlier lodged police reports on the matter, missed the meeting yesterday.

One parent, who declined to be named, said he was unhappy that he had been kept in the dark about the meeting and the apology.

"Yes, I have transferred my daughter to another school, but we still deserve an apology. Why were we not invited to the meeting?" he said when contacted.

"My daughter is so traumatised by this case as she was questioned by policemen in the school compound."

Asked if Mohd Nasir should be punished, he said:"Of course! If not, how could we feel comfortable about sending our children to national schools?"

However, it was later reported that Mohd Nasir had denied issuing any such apology, stating as he considers the matter "closed".

NONE Mohd Nasir had himself lodged a police report against a parent, V Kumancan ( on the left in picture ), for allegedly threatening him.

This had resulted in Kumancan being arrested.

World Tamillar Protection Body public relations officer R Sureshkumar said he has learnt that Mohd Nasir has decided not to press the charge.

"Kumancan was supposed to be in court on Monday for mention of the case, but he was not called," Sureshkumar said.

He added that the prosecution is said to be in the process of withdrawing the charge.
