DBKL, BN gov't taxing us to death

VOXPOP 'Yesterday petrol and sugar prices go up, today assessment goes up... The following year, GST will arrive. I will not be surprised if they will tax people in FT even when they pass gas.'

No decision yet on new assessment tax proposal, says minister

voxpop, voxFlyingeagle: The Umno Baru Federal Territory Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor was talking thru his posterior. He said the proposal to increase the assessment taxes in KL was based on current real estate prices and not meant to burden the people.

He further said the new rate was considered fair as the tax has not been revised for 21 years and owners are still paying the old rates. And at the very end he said the final decision on the new rate will be made after obtaining the feedback from residents before Dec 17.

Minister, you are contradicting yourself.

Cry for Malaysia: Tengku Adnan is talking crap. 21 years ago maybe only less than 100,000 households were paying assessments. Today more the 1,500,000 households are paying assessments. DBKL's assessment collection would have increased by more than 1,500% over 21 years from the increase in ratepayers.

Where has all the money gone? My home assessment has gone up from RM19,800 to RM31,020. This is daylight robbery. What improvement in service did DBKL do to justify this? Time for DBKL to be transparent and be efficient in their management and spending.

Cut down on all the wastage and improve the tender system for better control. All must stand up to send letters of objection (probably, he will deny receiving it anyway, so send by registered mail). Bantah kenaikan taksiran!

Anonymous #37634848: How irresponsible this Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) is. Why send guidelines of the land tax hike first and then get the feedback before deciding the actual rate? They should have discussed it first with the stakeholders, including Federal Territory MPs before sending out the proposal.

I challenge DBKL to call for an open dialogue on the matter with all stakeholders immediately. This secret notice to property owners is arrogance! Anyway, the assessment collection has already increased 300 to 900 percent in 21 years due to the proliferation of high-density developments in KL. What more does DBKL want?

Mr Kalai: To raise my valuation from RM6,000 to RM25,200 is no joke. The house I am staying in was bought from my EPF savings 35 years ago and my retirement income is not enough to pay the new rates ‑ what with the increase in petrol, sugar, Astro, provisions, marketing etc.

My local restaurant has been asked by the landlord to pay an increased rent by 30 percent to offset the rise in assessment rate. A chain reaction is about to follow.

Govern_13: My property was bought direct from the developer six years ago. This minister's justification of the rate having not increased in the last 21 years does not justify this at all, as my new rate will be increased by a whopping 281 percent.

Yes, the DBKL's notice says my new valuation is RM49,800 from RM17,200. The repercussions will be bad this time as it impacts greatly the middle-income group. If anyone is organising a protest, I will be there for .

Anonymous #95624654: My house in Taman Melati, in the outskirts of KL, will have its assessment raised by 234 percent - referring to both the proposed revised assessment value and the assessment rate (6 percent, if no change).

What kind of wel-planned, well-thought out revision of assessment is this? They should only increase by small percentage so it will not burden the people. Increasing by 200 - 300 percent will definitely burden all KL folks.

A sign of greedy people in power and 'rakyat dibelakangkan' (peope last).

Wira: Twenty-one years ago we didn't have that many high-density apartments. Today the situation is different. The government's collection of assessments has increased tremendously for the same input as opposed to the case of low-density housing.

It's stupid to argue that rates must necessarily go up just because they have not been increased for a generation. Umno minister, please reason before you open your gap.

Doc: Yesterday petrol and sugar prices go up, today assessment goes up, everyday essential household items go up, day after tomorrow the land tax also goes. The following year, GST will arrive.

Damn Umno is taxing the rakyat to death. I will not be surprised this moron Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor will tax people in FT even when they fart.

Syam: I don't know why this guy Tengku Adnan exists. He's not elected by anybody in KL. He's an MP from Putrajaya and that's not under DBKL. He should just be the minister for Putrajaya and raise the taxes there as he wants to.

Anonymous #25558299: BN leaders paid BR1M to the Umno supporters to stay in power and are all out to kill the KL people by collecting higher assessments. How can aged retirees and pensioners survive if they are to pay more taxes a year? BN leaders are slapping our faces and stabbing us in the stomach while enjoying life with their wives and children.

Most of the BRIM takers are the kampong Malays and now we KL folks including the old people are put under fire.

Basically: This is highway robbery by the federal government. Sure, our property prices may be higher now but as long as we do not sell and stay on it means zero to the house owner. A lot of KLites are still struggling to get by what with the increase in petrol prices and general prices, and with the GST coming, they want to rob us some more?

And remember, our salaries have not gone up that much either. These are the middle lower classes who got absolutely NOTHING from the government in terms of BR1M etc. And that came from our tax money!

It's double robbery. Go tax those giant bungalows belonging to your crony friends lah.

Clever Voter: Has this man Tengku Adnan gone mad? Not many of the citizens enjoy kickbacks or the opportunities to spend other people's money. I am quite sure if DBKL removes 10 percent of the wastage in their expenses, there would be more than enough to avoid the increase.

Besides, we don't see much of these extras bringing any improvements to living standards. Time for a massive protest to get the message across.

KL assessment tax hikes to fund incinerator?

John Goh T C: Price fixing or curtail is extremely common among the many incinerator makers in Japan. Please note the Japanese makers are the biggest players in this sunset business. Just like nuclear plants, incinerators are equally dangerous and unwanted by developed countries, except countries that have little land.

The minister keeps telling the world how safe the incinerator will be and keeps comparing it with Tokyo. Even in Tokyo, there were many recent cases of accidents and many were covered up by both the local government and the incinerator makers for obvious reasons. There are many resources on the Internet that can easily expose the lies

Besides, Putrajaya still has ample land, why not have it built there?

Anonymous_40f4: Just to show how wasteful DBKL is, it is building a flyover project in Jalan Segambut which is going nowhere. It is not going to solve the chronic traffic jams in Jalan Segambut. Meanwhile it has got no political will to widen the 1km bottleneck stretch in Jalan Segambut.

The problem has been there since the past 40 years. The flyover project just like all government projects has been delayed by more than a year. It seems to be another wasteful project because it is not going to solve the problem.

KPNG: Yes, the new palace is only 7km away from the planned Kepong incinerator, in a straight line in Google Maps, and furthermore it is on higher ground.

Imagine, I may be wrong, on a windy day, the wind may bring the bulk of the toxic gases and minute particles to the palace grounds. I have read about one foreign president suffering from dioxin poisoning. I am worried for our agong, may Allah help.

Quigonbond: I think a case can be made that the incinerator is calculated to punish Klang valley residents for voting for Pakatan Rakyat. Unfortunately this time, it is highly disrespectful to the yang dipertuan agong as well.
