Incumbents Husam Musa and Salahuddin Ayub retained their PAS vice-presidencies with former party information chief Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man filling the third post.

NONE With this, former vice-president Pokok Sena MP Mahfuz Omar who won the post in 2011, and former PAS central committee member Abu Bakar Chik are out.

Salahuddin a former Kubang Kerian MP, obtained the most votes with an impressive 917, while Husam, the former Kelantan state exco and Salor assemblyperson, polled 520.

Newcomer Tuan Ibrahim who is Pahang PAS state chief received 849 votes.

Mahfuz lost by a margin of 16 votes to Husam with his 504 while Abu Bakar Chik garnered 364 votes.

There were six spoiled votes.

A total of 1,086 delegates cast their votes on Friday afternoon and the votes were recounted yesterday as the votes were "very close", and results were finally announced this morning.

In the last muktamar in 2011, Husam received the top number of votes followed by Salahuddin and Mahfuz.

Three  key groups represented

First time winner Tuan Ibrahim when asked to comment on his victory, said the vice-presidencies currently represent three groups in the party - the activists, the professionals and the ulama.

"Salahuddin is an activist, Husam is a professional while I am classified as an ulama. Hence, all groups are represented," he said.

NONE Tuan Ibrahim ( left ) said that the number of candidates contesting for the vice-presidencies and other posts shows that the party has many potential leaders.

The former party information chief said the losers Mahfuz and Abu Bakar should be given vital roles in the party.

Tuan Ibrahim said what was important was that to unite the party members and improve cooperation within the party to face the challenges ahead.

"Our biggest task now is to prepare for the 14th general election," he emphasised.

Former Kelantan state exco member, Husam who obtained the second highest vote could not hide his sadness that Mahfuz lost.

In delivering the winding up speech, Husam said it was unfortunate that Mahfuz fell.

"Although I can speak well, Mahfuz is a better orator than me," he said in between holding back his tears.
