Outgoing Selangor DAP chief Teresa Kok has urged her party to intensify efforts to court Malay support in order to win at least half of the Malay vote.

In her parting speech at the 17th Selangor ordinary convention, Kok said less than 40 percent of Malays in Selangor voted for the party.

"We must work hard in Malay areas so that we can capture 50 percent of Malay support in the 14th general election," she said.

She also urged Pakatan Rakyat coalition partners to intensify efforts in rural areas.

"Now that we have a stronger Selangor government, we must help our partners in rural areas and in other states to realise the dream of change," she said.

Kok also urged the state DAP to address weak electoral areas in Selangor even though Pakatan has increased its state seats in Selangor 36 to 44 in the 56-seat state assembly.

"Selangor DAP must help its Pakatan partners to recover seats that were in lost in the 13th general election.

"This include the parliamentary constituencies of Hulu Selangor and Kuala Selangor and state seats of Bukit Melawati and Kota Damansara," she said.

Selangor DAP will elect its new leadership line up today and results is expected later this evening.

Kok, who is Seputeh MP and former state exco member, said she will be focusing her efforts on helping DAP in Sabah and Sarawak.
