Wee said if the Umno leaders are unhappy with Chinese Malaysian voters for not backing BN and fight for racial interests instead of the interests of all Malaysians because of this, it can only keep the Chinese votes out of reach.
“It would even drive away other non-Malay votes, and that would be the end of BN’s future,” he said in his policy speech at the MCA Youth AGM today.
The outgoing youth leader said if the government wants to win over the people’s hearts, it needs to serve the interests of all people and not on a racial basis.
“Following the May 5 general election, MCA suffered a setback yet again and has opted not to join the cabinet.
“This has caused many policies that are detrimental to the Chinese community, or did not take the interests of all races into consideration, to be executed, adding to the burden and the concerns of the people,” Wee said.
He did not specify which leader or what policies that he was referring to but vowed that the party would continue to oppose these, despite being “misunderstood” by the Chinese community.
MCA deputy president Liow Tiong Lai in his opening speech urged the party’s Youth wing to step up preparations for the next general election, saying MCA’s battle to make an electoral comeback would be half-won if it could get half the youth vote.
Liow, who is in the running for party presidency in Saturday’s election, also took the opportunity, in his speech, to campaign.
“If I am elected as party president, I will hold dialogues with the youth to hear their views and plan a strategy for the party’s development.
"The youth are the future of the party and the country.
"I will plan for the youth so that there is a gradual succession plan. Leaders are made in a day or two or come out of nowhere," Liow told the audience of 1,516 youth delegates and representatives from BN component parties.
