KAJANG With word going round that there is a large influx of phantom voters into Kajang, MCA has launched a ‘ghostbuster campaign’ by offering a reward of RM1,000 to those who succeed in spotting these voters.

Party deputy president Wee Ka Siong said the bounty was to show that the Chinese-based party has zero tolerance for such voters and foreign workers who are ineligible to cast the ballot.

Wee said the cash reward would only be given once the arrested phantom voters are charged in court.

He said a lot of false information had been widely spread. One is that some Sungai Chua residents were told that 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) was being distributed at the MCA by-election main operations centre.

“We are puzzled upon hearing the request, this is actually mischief,” Wee told a press conference.

‘Selangor government abuses state resources’

On a separate matter, he slammed the Pakatan-led Selangor government that embraces clean and fair election, for abusing state-owned resources and the Kajang local council's public facilities.

Citing an example, Wee pointed out that the state government was holding a carnival from March 7 to 23 at the Kajang stadium to obstruct other political parties from utilising the venue throughout the campaign period.

“Pakatan misuses the local council’s resource and occupies locations like basketball courts and community halls, which forces us to set up makeshift shacks,” he complained.

On the ruckus that occurred yesterday when the Election Commission enforcement team removed PKR’s banners, Wee lauded such efforts and revealed that some MCA banners too were removed.

“This proves that the EC operates independently,” he added.
