Incumbent PKR deputy president Azmin Ali says he is concerned that the formation of pacts ahead of the party election will be to the detriment to the party.

He said this in reference to the pact formed between Saifuddin Nasution, Rafizi Ramli and Nurul Izzah Anwar ahead of the party election in May.

"My main concern is the formation of these alliances and groupings are not healthy for the future of the party," he told a press conference at the PKR headquarters this morning.

Saifuddin ( right ) is challenging Azmin for the position of deputy president while Rafizi and Nurul Izzah are going for the vice-president positions.

Azmin's latest criticism comes after he yesterday declared himself to be "above factionalism" and said the party election will be decided by members and not "alliances or cartels".

However, Azmin said he still welcomed the trio contesting.

"I welcome my colleagues' intention to offer their services to the party.

"I hope the election process this time will go on smoothly and orderly and is based on the track record of candidates," he said.

Special select committee

On another matter, Azmin who is also Pakatan Rakyat backbenchers club chief, said he will push for a special select committee to oversee the water deal that Selangor will be signing with the federal government soon.

He lamented that Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim ( right ), who is also contesting for PKR deputy president, has not been forthcoming with information but denied the rivalry between them.

Azmin said as a state assemblyperson it was his duty to scrutinise the water deal.

"There is no clash of personalities between Azmin and Khalid, almost the entire party is against Khalid (on the water deal), so why blame me?" he said in reference to criticism of his supposed rivalry with Khalid.

Azmin has been a vocal critic of the water deal and had previously urged during the state assembly debate that it be publicly disclosed before it is signed.
