YOURSAY ‘Never thought I'd see the day Utusan talks about responsible journalism.’

Utusan: M'kini a feckless 'parking operator'

Aries46: Utusan Malaysia’s Zulkiflee Bakar has no credibility to take Malaysiakini to task.

They are like two opposite ends of the pole. One is a mainstream propaganda organ of a racist political party controlled by the ruling regime to keep its members in tow, while the other is a subscriber-based news portal whose membership is open to all Malaysians.

So, though Zulkiflee would not allow individual views of Malaysians in his organ, he is welcome to be a part of the Malaysiakini family and to express his views openly.

In fact, there are many Umno cybertroopers who are enjoying the facility in Malaysiakini but sadly having not much traction.

They are unable to fit in forums that deal with facts and do not condone issues of disunity, corruption, race and religion baiting, etc.

And Zulkiflee’s analogy of Malaysiakini and car park operators is misplaced. My car was broken into while parked in one and when I complained, the manager pointed me to the ‘disclaimer’ notice and showed me his middle finger.

Lamborghini: I thought I would never see the day Utusa n talks about responsible journalism.

It is so ironical that Utusan, which has been utterly irresponsible with an obvious religious and racial slant in its reporting, sometimes verging on sedition, has the cheek to malign Malaysiakini of being irresponsible.

Were the courts wrong to have found and fined Utusan so many times of being guilty of wrongly attacking certain individuals in the past?

How can such a newspaper that has been convicted of wrongdoing even dare to attack others? Please take a look at yourself in the mirror before attacking others.

I subscribe to Malaysiakini and find that it is a news portal that is fair and responsible. Utusan , you should be ashamed of yourself. There is none so blind that they refuse to see their own faults but see only other people's faults.

Samurai: Utusan is like the uncrupulous tailor in the proberbial 'Emperor's New Clothes', which thinks journalism is telling the government how wonderful it is, when it is not.

And in the end, the emperor's bare and ugly nakedness has been pointed out and exposed by the world's media, who see Umno leaders for what they truly are. But Utusan still wants to go on spinning "positive news" to lull the leaders into thinking they are wonderful and smart.

What more does Utusan want? An award?

SRMan: Utusan lost its credibility a long time ago. In fact, its credibility is now in negative territory.

Even an old kampung man I met sometime last year said Utusan's news cannot be trusted. Look at all the cases where it had been sued - it lost 90 percent of them.

Amazingly, it has the hide to lecture others about credible and responsible journalism.

HC: I nearly fell off my chair in disbelief as what is possibly the bastion of ignorance, racial vilification, religious zealots, right-wing no-holds-barred piece of garbage self-passed-off of anything closely resembling journalism, has the audacity to write even more rubbish.

Utusan caters to the ignorant, those in need of the perception of religious/racial superiority, the poorly educated, the imbeciles, the profoundly misguided and of course, the political masters who try to push all those buttons of divisiveness.

The reason Utusan needs financial support, which is essentially coerced from GLCs (government-linked companies), is pretty much due to the type of rubbish it writes.

It simply doesn't resonate anymore with a more educated population. You are where you are because of the quality of your reporting.

SpongeBob: If Malaysiakini is ‘parking’ so many negative comments, then this implies that there are many things that are going wrong in this country.

The people have the right to comment because the government and the leaders are abusing taxpayers' money. Leaders of the ruling government are undermining citizen's rights and underestimating the rakyat's intelligence.

I would like to pose this question to Utusan - how long do you think the government and Utusan can go on suppressing the people's freedom to voice when something is wrong?

In the Internet era, people know who is telling the truth. Definitely, they are not going read your garbage, both in print and online.

Moreover, Utusan does not give an opportunity to the people to comment. The simple reason is that, it is worried of getting too many negative comments from the Malay community.

Memory Lapse: Utusan can vent its frustration as it wishes. It is its own choice. The daily is the one that has been spinning the news and keeps harping on issues that in a way affect the peace-loving citizens of this country. Indeed, some of the 'manufactured' news make us feel disgusted.

Armchair Newspaper: Malaysiakini must be having more readers from Utusan’s core group, which is not all that remarkable since it is known for some time that Utusan , like the rest of Umno media, is losing readership, revenue base and influence in Malaysia.

It is important that for the sake of democracy and freedom, alternative media such as online news becomes stronger, more independent and influential.

Whatsup: Utusan , what audacity? Go do what you do best - slander and fabrication. Real and proper journalism is not your cup of tea, or your competence.

We respect Malaysiakini for its independence and upholding truth-based journalism. Utusan , how many slander cases have you lost and how much damages you have to pay?

You even need PM to coerce support for your newspaper. What more do you want, Utusan ?

Corgito Ergo Sum: The difference between the two media organisations is that the comments made in Malaysiakini do not necessarily reflect the editorial policy of the owners.

Utusan's venomous and racially charged editorials not only reflect the stand of the editors, but also is officially sanctioned.

And anyone who subscribes to Malaysiakini is free to give his or her opinions. Quite unlike Utusan's policy of allowing only what they deem in the national interest to be published - the more rabid and racially charged, the better!

EvenSteven: Utusan , I know you guys are having a tough time, but please don't close shop and rob me of what little happiness I have left.

It gladdens my heart to see you people losing money month in, month out and year in, year out, not forgetting the defamation suits that your paper has lost. Keep up the bad work.

Greenie: Zulkifli is just jealous and emotional because Malaysiakini subscribers are a whole lot more matured and educated than Utusan's.
