Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang has shot down PAS' offer for a debate on hudud law, saying that any debate would only take part in court.
 
"If PAS insists with implementing hudud law which is against the Federal Constitution, then let us debate the matter in court," he said in a press statement today.
 
He was responding to PAS' Sepang MP Mohamed Hanipa Maidin who had critcised Gerakan's legal notice sent to the party on April 24 on hudud law and had instead offered a "rational" dialogue or debate.
 
Tan pointed out that Gerakan was no exception in its opposition against hudud law, as PAS' partner, the DAP too, was against it.
 
"I think there is no need for any more debate or dialogue between PAS and me.
 
"It would be better that PAS spend time to try and understand why DAP is also against hudud," said Tan, who is also a practising lawyer.
 
He added that even Pakatan Rakyat in Selangor which is led by a Muslim Menteri Besar had not proposed to implement hudud law in the state.
 
"Has PAS ever asked why is this the case?" he said, adding that Gerakan will defend the Federal Constitution.
