PAS information chief Mahfuz Omar has urged Independent candidate Mohamed Nabi Bux Mohd Nabi Sathar to back DAP’s Ramkarpal Singh in the May 25 Bukit Gelugor by-election.

Mahfuz ( right ) said Nabi Bux should heed the advice of PAS if he continues to insist that he is a party  member.

“Right now, Nabi Bux is acting against the party’s stand, by standing as an independent candidate in this by-election,” Mahfuz said when met at Taman Bunga Raya, Penang, after his ceramah session last night.

However, Mahfuz strongly denied that Nabi Bux is a PAS member, insisting his name is not listed as a member in the national party registration.

Asked if he had checked the registration record of the PAS Kampung Banjar branch , since Nabi Bux claims his name is listed there, Mahfuz replied: “The issue is, his name is not in the record. The branch may exist, but his name is not there.”

On Nabi Bux’s claim that he had shown proof of his membership, with photographs and a membership certificate, Mahfuz said: “I don’t know where he got those from.”

He said he would refer Nabi Bux to the party’s disciplinary board if the latter continued to insist that he is a PAS member.

Asked about his own claim that Nabi Bux is an Umno man , Mahfuz said, “it’s all over the Internet, we live in modern times”.

Mahfuz further laughed off Nabi Bux’s ‘Hudud in Penang by 2020' campaign for the coming by-election, saying: “How (can he do) so, when he is contesting for an MP seat and not a state seat? It does not make sense”.

‘How can PAS insult their own child?’

Meanwhile, at his first press conference in Penang yesterday, Nabi Bux decried the action of PAS’ leaders who “pretending” they do not know him.

“How can they deny my membership and insult me like that? How can they insult their own child, just to please DAP?” asked the 63-year-old retiree.

To further prove himself, Nabi Bux showed the media a newspaper cutting of himself purportedly lodging a police report over certain quarters who burned the PKR flag to protest party vice-president Tian Chua’s remarks that Umno was making a show over the Lahad Datu intrusion last year.

Nabi Bux, and another Independent candidate, Abu Backer Sidek Mohammad Zan, will face DAP’s Ramkarpal Singh and Parti Cinta Malaysia’s Huan Cheng Guan, in the May 25 by-election.

The parliamentary seat fell vacant on April 17 upon the death of its MP Karpal Singh in a car crash along the North-South Expressway in Perak.

Karpal had won the seat in three general elections since 2004, retaining it with a 41,778-vote majority against MCA’s Teh Beng Yeam in the May 5 general election last year.
