PAS vows support despite Dyana's hudud stand
PAS has pledged to support DAP candidate Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud in the Teluk Intan by-election even though she has declared her intention to vote against hudud which is central to PAS' struggle.
PAS has pledged to support DAP candidate Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud in the Teluk Intan by-election even though she has declared her intention to vote against hudud which is central to PAS' struggle.
PAS vice-president Salahuddin Ayub ( left ) said the party respected Dyana's stance as it is also DAP's stance, according to a Sinar Harian report today.
"This is not something new, we know that DAP has from day one never supported hudud.
"Dyana is a DAP candidate, obviously she will support her party's stance, it can't be expected for her to support PAS instead," he was quoted as saying.
Salahuddin added that hudud was not a major factor in the Teluk Intan by-election nor will it shake PAS' cooperation in Pakatan Rakyat.
"This does not discourage PAS from working with DAP in matters that are our common struggle while at the same time to push for PAS' own struggle of hudud,” he said.
In an exclusive interview with Malaysiakini , Dyana had said she was not against hudud but added that the implementation of it in multi-racial Malaysia was not feasible and will therefore vote against it if brought to Parliament.
Dyana, who is a lawyer, added that her stance will also not make her any less of a Muslim.
