BUKIT GELUGOR About a quarter of the eligible police and army voters have already cast their ballots in early voting for the Bukit Gelugor by-election by 10am today.

Election Commission (EC) secretary Abdul Ghani Salleh said that the situation was orderly and peaceful.

“Up to 27 percent of the police and armed forces personnel registered to vote have done so in a very orderly manner.

“I expect the percentage to rise by noon, before the voting process ends at 2pm today,” he said.

As at 10am, almost 40 of the 148 police and army officers have voted for their Bukit Gelugor parlimentarian.

Voting was being carried out four main locations - Region One marine operations headquarters’ Kemas kindergarten in Batu Uban, Ayer Itam police station, Bandar Baru Air Itam police station and KD Sri Pinang navy headquarters in Gelugor.

The EC had set polling date for May 25 with 82,431 voters registered in 17 polling centres and 139 divisions.

The four candidates are DAP’s Ramkarpal Singh, PCM’s Huan Cheng Guan and two Independent candidates - lawyer Abu Backer Sidek Mohamad Zan  and Mohamed Nabi Bux Abdul Sathar.
