Putrajaya will organise a national town hall session on Sept 28 to involve more stakeholders and civil society members in reviewing the government’s Freedom of Information Bill (FOI).
“This is because the bill constitutes an important reform that requires in-depth and balanced consideration to ensure that the framework established can be implemented effectively and responsibly, while taking into account public interests and relevant legal considerations,” said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Azalina in a statement.
The decision was made by the Parliamentary Special Select Committee on FOI in its fourth meeting earlier today, where it looked into feedback on major issues concerning the bill.

Accident
The police investigation into a roller coaster accident that left 10 people injured will take at least three to four months, said Selangor police chief Shazeli Kahar.

The detailed investigation involves forensic teams, the state Occupational Safety and Health Department, and the Fire and Rescue Department.
The incident took place at the Sunway Lagoon Theme Park on Aug 22.

With OSA, Section 233 of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Act (CMA) 1998, and other regressive acts as an albatross around the people's neck, what is the use of having a town hall on FOI? Moreover, the FOI bill is merely a decoration. Nothing else. It is a joke!
The govt should not just hold town hall on FOI ! The people are more interested in the following. What about the special committee report on "corporate mafia" which it has been sitting on for 6 months ? How about a town hall on the LCS scandal ? After losing RM 12,000,000,000 it is impossible no one had stolen the money. How about a town hall on the DNAA for the 47 charges after prima facies have been established ? How about a town hall on the Sabah mining scandal ? The govt should hold town hall on what the people wants to know, not just on what the govt wants them to know !
